DENTAL BONDING

Quick and Effective Restorative Treatment

Dental bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure used to restore chipped, cracked, broken or discolored teeth. The bonding material is a tooth-colored composite resin that dries to match your teeth with a natural look. It is an effective way to improve the look of your smile in just one dental visit. Dental bonding usually does not require anesthetic and can dramatically improve your smile.

Benefits

At Fair Lakes Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Tran and Dr. Nguyen are trained in all aspects of cosmetic dentistry and restorative procedures. Dental bonding is an affordable, minimally invasive and time-effective restoration that offers many benefits, including:

  • Reshape teeth that are chipped or cracked

  • Close spaces between teeth

  • Lengthen teeth so your smile is uniform and even

  • Fix discoloration on teeth to improve the appearance of your smile

  • Help prevent decay in exposed enamel

What To Expect

After a cosmetic consultation with one of our dental providers, we can help determine if dental bonding is the right procedure for you. Our team will then:

  • Determine the color of composite resin that will best match your other teeth

  • Etch or abrade the surface of the tooth to roughen it, which helps the composite resin adhere

  • Prepare the tooth for the tooth-colored resin material

  • Apply resin, mold, shape and smooth it until it is in the proper shape

  • Harden the bonding material with an ultraviolet light

  • Polish, trim and shape the tooth to match the rest of the teeth

The dental bonding procedure is relatively quick and simple. The procedure itself should not be painful. However, you may experience sensitivity to cold and hot temperatures following your bonding procedure. As the resin materials cure completely during the bonding process, there are no restrictions to when you can eat or drink after the procedure. If necessary, patients can take non-prescription to help with discomfort.

Bonding material is not quite as strong as your natural tooth, therefore it is important to take care of the bonded tooth or teeth by not chewing on hard substances like ice, pens or fingernails. Dental bonding should be quite durable and long-lasting if you take care of the restoration. Restorations are best cared for through healthy dental hygiene practices such as brushing twice a day, flossing and visiting us for your routine cleaning at Fair Lakes Family and Cosmetic Dentistry every six months or as needed. We’ll monitor the appearance and function of your bonded teeth to ensure that your smile lasts for years to come.

Is Dental Bonding Right For Me?

Dental bonding is a cosmetic dentistry procedure that works best on the front teeth, as they do not work as hard during chewing as the back teeth and molars. If the chipped tooth you wish to fix is on a back tooth or spans multiple teeth, talk to our team about our other cosmetic and restorative dental options.
